NEW!! * NEW!! * NEW!! * NEW! -------------------------- From May 23rd to May 30th I peddled my pants off across the Louisiana bayous through the heart of Cajun Country. As part of the PEPY Hurricane Relief Ride I, along with a team of seven other riders, am raising both money and awareness for the victims of hurricanes Rita and Katrina. My personal goal is to raise at least $3,000. As of June 17th I STILL need to reach my goal:
So, what's this PEPY thing anyway? PEPY is an acronym for Protect the Earth, Protect Yourself. The non-profit organization was founded last year by two Americans teaching English in Japan. Over a school vacation they visited Cambodia and were moved by the reality of life in a developing country. They formed PEPY and began sponsoring educational bicycle trips to raise environmental awareness and money to build schools in impoverished areas of Cambodia. PEPY rides emphasize education through action, where participants both learn from and give back to the communities they visit. For more information on PEPY's rides in Cambodia please look at their official site, here. PEPY has expanded and they sponsored this educational trip through the hurricane affected areas of Louisiana. The team of eight riders had the opportunity to learn about the environmental impact of hurricanes as well as the efforts in the local communities during this difficult reconstruction process.
