~ Bikes Not Bombs ~

I have been volunteering at the Bikes Not Bombs organization.  This NGO has generously donated over 300 bikes to the citizens of New Orleans.  In addition, BNB is donating three road bicycles to the PEPY Hurricane Relief Ride.  At the conclusion of our ride, the three bicycles will be donated to families in New Orleans through the YMCA of Greater New Orleans.

During my time at BNB, Carl Kurz (the founder) and his assistants have been teaching me how to refurbish old bicycles.  I'm learning a bit about the mechanics and how to fix problems which might occur on our ride. It's been quite rewarding to learn the "nuts and bolts" of the sport and hopefully I won't have to put my newfound skills (changing a flat tire, etc.) to use on the ride!

The main office of the 'Bikes not Bombs' organization is located in Roxbury, Massachusetts. . .  a suburb of Boston.

Carl Kurz (left), the founder of BNB, shows a trainee a "special trick" to fix a crooked valve.  Carl has been extremely generous with his time to teach me the basics of bike mechanics.

There's a place for everything and everything should be in it's place.  The sign of a well-organized bike shop.

BNB refurbishes numerous kinds mountain, road, hybrid and children's bikes.

Safety is paramount when riding along Boston's busy streets.  Be sure to wear a helmet!

I posted one of my flyers in BNB.  Can you find it?

This is a photo of a photo.  This photo was taken this past March when the shipment of 300 bicycles arrived in New Orleans.  You can read more about the story here.
