Kyushu Trip - 1
(Muroran ~ Nagasaki)

My loaded bike (tent, sleeping bag, computer, etc.) before boarding the ferry in Muroran and leaving Hokkaido, my home for three years.

The cramped quarters of the capsule hotel were fun for an experience never to be repeated. The 'pods' are piled two-high and inside each one is a TV, radio and alarm clock!

In the city of Fukuoka the beloved cherry blossoms were nearing their peak.

Three weeks before I visited, a large earthquake rocked the city of Fukuoka with dramatic results.

The free-range chickens at the Suyuan Farm lead carefree lives and often play amusing games of tag.

This Nagasaki clock stopped precisely at 11:02 AM on the day the atomic bomb was dropped.

This memorial statue was unveiled of the 50th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.

1,000 folded paper cranes are a Japanese symbol of peace. I found this rainbow, created by elementary school kids, hanging in the Nagasaki 'Peace Park'.

The setting sun shines brightly through this Japanese flag's 'rising sun'.
